[ALOCHONA] BDR Carnage : What could have been done, what would have happened

BDR Carnage : What could have been done, what would have happened

Shahriar Kabir

25 February at 3.45(london time) I awake up with a phone call "ora amer baba ke atke rekhase". I was astonished and stunned and its take me an honour time to realize what to do. Make call hundreds of friends and relative to know what is going on. Just thinking what I can do; I was such a helpless that no one giving me any sort of information. 24 hours passed way.

I am searching the web for hours to get information but nothing coming up. I used to believe Bangladesh Military is really well organized; they must have an information cell which can provide information. But there was no such an information cell to get news. I have spoken to many officials but they were left me in dark as well. I flew to Bangladesh next day. What I have been seen that completely a genocide.

The people of the country are angry and saddened by the horrific events of 25-26th February at the BDR headquarters especially the pre-planned and barbaric killings of more than hundreds military officers. Brutally murdering unarmed military officers and their families is an unforgivable crime. Mutilating dead bodies of officers; torturing and killing their wives and children including pregnant women; rape and burning dead bodies - all these inhumane acts were carried out by whom, can you tell me? When some of our prominent intellectual demanding the government well handled the situation, it's more than a month yet we did not know who was behind, though we presume when our head of the state make political comment and the chief of the army staff who used to talk quit a lot did not make any remark about the killing. We insist and solicit why you want to save the interest of other. Time will give his judgement, did not forget in past everyone was punished and will be punished in future InshAllah if there is Almighty.

Foremost, it needs to be stated that the deaths of the armed forces officials in this incident are totally unacceptable. This is depressing and inhuman. Such deaths are unwarranted. However, what the government have done to save the military officials. There are many people feigning not to understand this. Those who put their pen to support the government and especially to the Prime Minister and The General M U Ahmed I have a question about their patriotism because of-

* The PM and the General was informed at 9 o'clock in the morning, what they have done?

* The prime minister had a meeting with the rebels in the late afternoon but there is no record of it, is there no protocol system in PM office?

* How Nanok within short period of time manage to pick the leaders from Pillkhana? Did he knew them or is it a part of the plan?

* During the meeting did the PM ask them about her officers or did she want to have a chat with the DG?

* Did the PM fixed a time frame for surrender or did she tell them where to hand over their arms?

* Why the BD television set up screen for video conference but why our PM did not make any address for the Solders?

All the answer is a big "NO". In the name of defend massive killing she did not send the troops instead she showed her leniency by declaring mercy to them and pull the military 3 km away from pill khana. Is it not an opportunity for the BDR soldier to get excess to leave BDR headquarter?

The drama continue-

On night time the Home Minister went to the Pill Khana with no police force, addressing the soldier as her son. Her son hand over few arms and later pull it again as we all has seen it in the television. IGP went there to rescue his daughter. Later that night she went to the officer's mass where an officer wife told her "I have nothing to lost, I am not leaving". My heart burning when a women did not realize the word of another women, what a sham. She did not look for the officers even. She rescue 26 families only then what is the point of this compassion in the afternoon. We passed a night without knowing where our family members are.

Next morning when the sun rise in the east a two years child lost her Dad, the wife who used to have breakfast with her husband lost everything, the child who used to get drop to school by her father lost everything, the boy who used to get pocket money every morning lost their dad.

The rebels did not surrender but it was spared all over the country. Still we did not deploy our commandos or troops or even we did not use our air force. We are dreaming about digital Bangladesh then dear PM why should not you use satellite or use the air force to zoom the inside of pill khana to make out what is going over there. Anyway at last she addressed the nation in the afternoon when there was no one alive and at 4 o'clock only 200 solders surrender out of 15,000. Dear PM how did you forget about the revolt laid by the Ansar and have you seen how it was controlled. Only Allah knows what was in your mind.

When the PM made her address to the nation she had done everything but the question why she did not do it just 24 hours ago. Did she had any thought if she had done it on time how many soul were saved. Did she have done anything to stop the killing? Did she done anything to stop the mutiny all over the country? Did she send any armed force? Shame but truth she had done nothing but dancing with the tune of someone, who gift the absolute victory in the election by polarising the so called caretaker Government and also made promise to General M U Ahmed to honour him after his retirement by offering good position in UN. Some are demanding it was the political vision and her charismatic submission which save hundreds of life and keep the country from civil war then why did not she made it earlier.

Why only 200 solders in the Pill khana, who told all the battalion solder to put their gun away, did they do not know the consequence after surrender, are they foolish? If they, who encourage them to kill all the high officials, it was noticeable no colonel or brigadier and major general alive, who give them the list? All solders came from all over the country where as some officials just join to the BDR 2 to 3 weeks ago then how they knew the officials, who identified them? The truth is when all killing have been completed then it just stops like someone press a magic button. But who are they?

I want to politely ask those critics, why are we evading the issue of intelligence failure in preventing such a large-scale tragedy? Why did intelligence agents fail to acquire any advanced information about this incident? Is this the government's failure? The present government appointed Brigadier General Mokbul in DGIF and most of the colonel was posted to BDR at the end of the January. Who wish to do Omrah and who make request to arrange the BDR week earlier? On 22 February who informed the PM that something will take place in Pill Khana and therefore not to go there. Why she did not pass to the DG of BDR?

Our military constitutes a well-disciplined force. It is possible to find out in one breath the number of our armed forces officials and their assignment locations. Why was it claimed that 72 officials were missing even 7 days after the incident? Why the number of missing officials was revised 5 out of the blue? In that case, where were the rest of the 67 officials? Did they flee?

As far as the BDR mutiny concerned the RAB went to the pill khana at 10.30 a.m and the armed force was there around 11 o'clock. Then why my officers were not saved. The excuse behind this to stop a massacre and saving life's including civilians. Until today nearly 1000 BDR were arrested on the issue of Murder and according to the present law of the country thy will be punished under s302 and that is hang punishment. So how do you save life? You killed our golden and brilliant officials and now killing the solders. Yes you are successful in your mission to destroy BDR and breakdown the backbone of the armed force.

It is well know that India is always like to walk with AL and India is the greatest friend of the present government. So India cannot do it, it was done by the ISA to crackdown the present government. Do you believe this story? Believe it or not Mr. Manosh Gosh the editor of THE STATESMAN in India and most of our intellectual like Borhan Udin, Abdul Gaffer Chowdhury etc believes it. So who are this intellectual and for whom they are working.....

During the time of the NAMAJE JANAJA in the parade square all military personnel and few politicians over there. Is this called the National respect or is this called solidarity. If everyone knows the loose what Bangladesh suffered then why should not the PM declared it as national Holiday for the respect of the National Heroes. In the parade Square most of the Sahid families are humiliated, There was not enough seat to sat down even, the car park was miles away, no fan and lastly Misses Mueen was left without showing any sort of curtsey for this family.

They were buried but left thousand orphans and love one who cries for justice. Again in Bangladesh past history shows there were no inquire report ever been published and there was no previous justice for any killing from Father of the Nation to the attack on the PM where our present President lost his beloved wife. Then how far we are very much sure that this inquire ever been publish and the truth will come in broad day light.

When we are asking for the justice surprisingly one issue came as a headline of all the news paper and that is who was related with the arms smuggling in Chittagon. Is it not a pre planned job to divert the whole nation with something else rather than asking for Justice. Whenever Justice delayed, justice was denied. Please do not do this then history will teach you. Another notable thing happened when the Indian Statesman editor made comment and suggest that the PM done a bold job which save the country from civil war. Oh no what a patriotism and love for Bangladesh. Did he forget the event of 10 January when my country was beyond doubt in the step of civil war this Military personnel save the country, it is the Prime Minister and Khaleda Zia who left my country such a conflicting situation. Did you forget dear editor or is it the revenge of Padua where 17 BSF were killed in 8 years ago.

All the offices were more or less attached with different programme run by the so called caretaker government last 2 years and they have all the information about corruption, commerce and politics. Because of their experience and information they will become the target of the politician. Moreover the DG was the military secretary and he had run the Dal-Vat program and because of this he knew so many things about the food ministry, commerce ministry and finance ministry. They have all information how the banking sector running, all the information about the business man who controlled the market, how and who reserve essential things in India, how Indian government patronised the drug agents etc.

More than 16 colonels will become Brigadier in the next board and most of them had very high calibre, who have long course from China, USA and all of them are PSC and went to peace keeping mission. Few have done the AFWC course. On the table talk with India this officials played a notable part and solve to many problem, like cultivation of tea in no man's land, stop drug trafficking, collect date about our food security system, use high technology to ensure high standard, take long goal to improve the BDR solders welfare such as demanding to the Prime Minister about 100% ransom for the BDR member etc.

In UN missions Bangladesh is the largest troops contributing country to UN. It is not India, Pakistan, US or Canada. From now the credibility of the military can be question and lack of experience and honest official make the armed force week. The mission successful so the next step should be to identify Bangladesh as a fundamentalist country like Pakistan, so can no investment come throw and what ever achieved can gone throw as well.

From the above point it was clear that whoever made this plan, he did it to make my country and the military week. By doing this there will be no challenged for the present government from the Army and there will be no barging position in any bilateral issue with India. By killing those innocent golden official the politician took revenge which make my country enormously week. We want justice and justice should be done according what the people of Bangladesh wish not what the politician or India wish for.

How did you forget about the killing of your Dad, your brother, your relative? Did you wait this long to save your family? During the emergency you went to Canada to look after your daughter when the country needed you. But as a mum what you have done I appreciate it because you are not only a leader but also a mum, our child need us on their bad days. But this time when the official crying for life, when they need your feeding you left them and spent time over meeting. They sacrifice their lives when you can save them. We love all of you so much that no tears, no pain can keep you way from us.
