MBBS classes, exams at DMC suspended following BCL clash
All classes and examinations of MBBS course at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) were suspended following a clash between two rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at a dormitory early today (Tuesday).
Campus sources said the clash erupted at 1:45am at Fazle Rabbi Hall between the supporters of Hall unit BCL General Secretary Abul Kalam Asad alias Rajib and former BCL leader Dr Bidyut Barua over establishing supremacy.
Chase and counter chase took place during the melee that left 15-20 activists from both sides injured.
Fourteen of the injured were admitted to the medical section of the college.
"Condition of Rajib is stated critical. He is kept in Intensive Care Unit (ICU)," said a DMCH source.
Meanwhile, college authorities, in an academic council meeting in the morning, suspended all classes and examinations of MBBS course till further notice.
All students were asked to vacate the dormitories by 4:00pm today.
However, the order will not be applicable for foreign students.
