I do like diversity in our country and (Like any other minorities) Hindus are very much part of our land. Therefore, it is duty of EVERY government to offer peroper protection to vulnerable population. We see our ugly politics with minority population around elections. Personally I feel overwhelming majority population have NOTHING against common Hindus and most of the time we live in peace. Today Hindus are attacked (IN most cases) because of their "Assumed" political affiliation NOT for their religion. Otherwise we would have seen such activities every month. Thankfully that is not the case and we have to work as a team to demand more from our governments for our personal safety.
Sunils, Jotis and many others have done much better by crossing the border. Master-da was lucky enough to die before being cleansed from his homeland. Had he been alive after 1947, he too would have followed other Jotis?

For sure, if we could hold onto tons of very talented non-Muslims from Bengal, it would have been best solution. But always blaming Muslims (Without sharing context) is not helpful and can mislead younger members. It was so bad during first part of last century that, even a job of a cook was hard to obtain for a young Muslim man!!
We cannot change history but we can work for a better future for ALL Bangladeshis (Of all religions). Let us focus on that and stay vocal for better protection for all citizens of our beloved motherland.

শুক্রবার সকালে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ছাত্র-শিক্ষক কেন্দ্রের (টিএসসি) ক্যাফেটেরিয়ায় 'সংখ্যালঘু নির্যাতন প্রতিরোধে আমাদের করণীয়' শীর্ষক গোলটেবিল আলোচনা সভায় প্রধান অতিথির বক্তৃতায় তিনি এসব কথা বলেন। সম্প্রীতি মঞ্চ এই আলোচনা সভার আয়োজন করে।
তিনি বলেন, "আমার কাছে যে তথ্য আছে তা থেকে বলছি, ভবিষ্যতে আরো বড় ধরনের সহিংসতার ঘটনা ঘটবে। এর জন্য আমরা কতটা প্রস্তুত আছি। আমাদের কথার সময় নয়, এখন কাজের সময়। রাষ্ট্রকে ধ্বংস করার জন্য একটি চক্র কাজ করছে। তাদের রুখতে হবে। এটি করার জন্য যেটি দরকার, যেখানে যেখানে সংখ্যালঘু রয়েছে সেখানেই নাগরিক কমিটি গঠন্ করতে হবে।"
বিরোধী দলের উদ্দেশে তিনি বলেন, "আপনাদের কর্মীদের নির্দেশ দিন তারা যেন সংখ্যালঘুদের পাশে দাঁড়ান, দিনের পর দিন পাহারা ও নিরাপত্তা দেন। তখন বোঝা যাবে জনগণ কাদের পক্ষে আছে। এটা করে দেখাতে হবে। সেই সঙ্গে সরকারকে এটি নিয়ে কাজ করতে হবে। রামুর ঘটনার পর সরকার যে ক্ষতিপূরণ দিয়েছে, তেমনি এই সংখ্যালঘুদেরও ক্ষতিপূরণ অতিদ্রুত দিতে হবে। তা না হলে তারা নিরাপত্তাহীনতায় ভুগবেন। এজন্য রাষ্ট্রকেই এগিয়ে আসতে হবে।"
গণমাধ্যমকে আরো দায়িত্বশীল হওয়ার আহ্বান জানিয়ে ড. মিজান বলেন, "আমাদের সংবাদ মাধ্যমকে অধিক দায়িত্ব নিয়ে কাজ করতে হবে। সংবাদ বিপণন করা থেকে বেরিয়ে আসতে হবে। সাদাকে সাদা ও কালোকে কালো বলতে হবে। গণতন্ত্রের প্রতীক হিসেবে কাজ করতে হবে। সংখ্যালঘুদের পাশে দাঁড়াতে হবে।"
মানবাধিকার কমিশন চেয়ারম্যান বলেন, "কোনো দেশে সমস্যার দুটি দিক রয়েছে তা হলো রাজনৈতিক ও সামাজিক। যখন আমরা রাজনৈতিক সমস্যার কথা বলি তখন নিরপেক্ষতার কথা বলি। সেই নিরপেক্ষতা থেকে এখন বেরিয়ে আসতে হবে। অনেক হয়েছে আমাদের নিরপেক্ষতা।"
তিনি বলেন, "যখনই নিরপেক্ষতার কথা বলি যারা যুদ্ধপরাধীদের বিচার চায় ও চায় না তাদের একই পাল্লায় মাপা শুরু করি।এটা এখনই বন্ধ করতে হবে। আর কতদিন এই খেলা খেলবো। আওয়ামী লীগের কথা বলতে গেলে বিএনপির কথা আনতেই হবে। একদল যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের বিচারের পক্ষে এবং আরেক দল বলে, তোরা যে যা বলিস ভাই জামায়াত আমার চাই।"
ড. মিজান বলেন, "মুক্তিযুদ্ধের বাংলাদেশ গড়তে আমাদের নিজ দায়িত্বে কাজ করতে হবে। অনেকদিন বামপন্থিরা এই কাজ করছেন।এখন তাদের কেন আমরা পাচ্ছি না।উদীচী শুধু গান শোনার জন্য নয়। সাধারণ মানুষ রাষ্ট্রদ্রোহিতার কথা বললে তাদের শাস্তি দেয়া হয়। তবে অন্য কেউ এ কথা বললে তাদের কিছুই হয় না।এই আইনহীনতার সংস্কৃতি ত্যাগ করতে হবে।"
মির্জা ফখরুলের উদ্দেশে মানবাধিকার কমিশন চেয়ারম্যান বলেন, "হরতালের শেষে তিনি বলেন, আমাদের হরতাল স্বতস্ফূর্ত হয়েছে। তিনি যেদিন এটাকে 'দুঃখজনক' বলবেন, সেদিনই তা সফল হবে।
হরতাল চলাকালে শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে ও শিক্ষার্থীদের ওপর হামলার নিন্দা জানান মানবাধিকার কমিশন চেয়ারম্যান।

I do not like this line of arguments. How about trying, "non-Muslims who were born in Bangladesh, whose forefathers have been living there for centuries, have a birthright on that soil. No one has a right to force or intimidate them, let alone committing barbaric atrocities on them, to push them form their motherland."

Pakistan has virtually gotten rid of it's minorities and it is only matter of time when last Bangladeshi Hindus will be crossing the border. Whether they are talented or not, nobody really cares? I want to see Bangladesh as the shining star in the southeastern Asian belt. It is not too far off from that goal; let's work together, and build our nation. We should be working together to get rid of poverty, not the religious minority. Religious minorities are extremely resourceful citizens of the nation; do not push such resources away. Don't encourage brain drain any longer. Look at the West Bengal, who are the most talented ones there? They are all from Bangladesh.
We cannot broaden our mind until religion takes the backseat in our life. It hurts me to see what's happening to thousands of Muslims in Myanmar; it hurts me to see what's happening to religious minorities in Bangladesh and Pakistan. What's causing these unrests and atrocities on fellow human beings? Ask Muslims in Myanmar; Hindus and Buddhists in Bangladesh and Pakistan, they will tell you - religion is at the core of all these troubles on them. Are we still going to tell ourselves that - it's only due to a few misguided religious people in those countries? Whatever it is, it's unbearable to those who are the victim. Let's defeat those misguided evils among us and save religious minorities.
I am happy to hear from so many freethinkers in this forum. It gives hope for the better future for all. Narrow mindedness will only drag people backward and make us inferior and insignificant to others in the world. Let's open our mind and look at the horizon far away from us.
