[mukto-mona] RU teachers jailed

Sentencing four Rajshahi University teachers to two years of imprisonment by a newly 'independent' court shows the current status of freedom, dignity and respect of the highest educational institutions in particular and the common people in general. The teachers will appeal against this verdict and judgement of the higher court will be keenly observed. It is highly probable that these teachers will be 'pardoned' and freed soon.
Sadly, it appears that the non-political higher echelon have not realised and addressed the causes of the widespread social anger and revolt of August 2007 — leading Bangladesh towards a more violent unrest. 'Fear-inflicting' methods do not work when grip becomes loose.

Four Rajshahi University teachers were convicted for inciting campus unrest on August, 2007 and were sentenced to two years' imprisonment. But will it really restore peace in the educational institutions and contain further unrest? I seriously doubt. Rather things are likely to become more volatile hampering the education of the students. I appeal to the caretaker government to review the matter from humanitarian ground and do the needful.
