Akbar Bhaiya, few comments:
1. Do we really want to deprive the students of their basic rights to protest (against evils and injustices) and demand (for rights)?
2. It is not only student politics that is vulnerable to corruption, labor politics also embraces the same fate. Would you opine against labor unionism also?
3. You have seen Ekush and fall of Ayub and Yahia before 1971, and that's why you believe that student politics was all right at that time. Why do you ignore the great movements that the students led after 1971? Take the case of the fall of Ershad, for example.
4. The argument that we have now fewer talents (is it really true?) just because of students politics may not be logically and statistically tenable. Involvement in student politics broadens the outlook of the participating student. That way he is better equipped to serve the country. Opportunists are excluded, though.
5. I think there is a confusion about which groups of students are dominating the field. Students supporting an autocratic ruling political party cannot bring any good for the country. NSF was not good. Chhatra Dal is not good when BNP is in power and Chhatra League is not good when AL is in power. Dirty games played by BNP-Jamaat alliance was being protested by the people including the students and because of the stubbornness of BNP we ended up with the emergency rule.
6. Our outlook changes. Our outlook changes as time and space in which we live change. If I am leading a happy life now, I will find the sacrifices made and risks taken by the honest university teachers completely to be a nuisance.
