[vinnomot] Statement Regarding Ekattur-er Golpo

Statement Regarding Ekattur-er Golpo

My heart was filled with awe to have had the opportunity to share my personal experience of our great liberation war of 1971 in an event on December 01, 2007 organized by the "Ekattur-er Golpo".  I thank the organizers of the "Ekattur-er Golpo" for inviting me to speak at their gathering. I was amazed to witness their energy, courage, commitment, and volunteerism to make the "Ekattur-er Golpo" program a great success. These young Bengalis are really hard working and selfless volunteers who sacrificed their valuable time and energy to learn the true history of the Bangladesh liberation war directly from those who actually fought with arms during the liberation war.

Also, they organized cultural programs performed by the children and youths of the "Bangla School". They exhibited the rare and invaluable pictures of the liberation war of 1971 with the courtesy of "ChangeBangladesh." This time, they raised about $4000 which will be matched by their corporate donors and the money will be donated to the Cyclone SIDR Victims, Acid Victims and Feeding Program for the poor people of Bangladesh. These are excellent patriotic activities for the noble causes that these young Bengali-Americans are doing solely on a voluntary basis. As a freedom fighter of 1971, I laud them for their hard working accomplishments.

I know that many of the organizers of the "Ekattur-er Golpo" are the children of pro-liberation leaders who from the bottom of their hearts hate the anti-liberation forces such as Razakars, Jamat-e-Islami, Pakistani Collaborators, and their cohorts.

I was also honored that Prof. Anis Ahmed, a renowned Journalist of the Voice of America served as the moderator for the audiences' questions as I was sharing my experience of the liberation war. He eloquently moderated many questions which were thoughtful for the new generation, and thus reflected the true history of our liberation war.

Although I could not address all the questions in detail and could not share many of my personal war experiences due to the time constraints, I congratulate the organizers of the "Ekattur-er Golpo" for their selfless hard work, commitment, and mission to serve our beloved country and the people of Bangladesh.

KEEP IT UP EKATTUR-ER GOLPO.

Mr Afza, Unfortunately your comments are musguided. Neither Anis Ahmed nor 71-er Golpo have affiliations with radical islamist groups.

It is a fact the 'Ekattorer Golopo' (the history of 1971 liberation war is all facts not golpo) is a heinously deceptive and mischievous platform to distort, twist and taunt the fundamentals, the inset of liberation movement and the hard facts of of our liberation movement and war. The people like Anis Ahmed and his perpetrators, one like Enayetullah are die hard Islamist in its rigidest form. These myopics are like Pygmy's - who may be branded as fifth column regiments. In face they are often nice and polite; but they have another face. Anything not Islamic, not consistent to Islamic fatawa is not tolerable to them, and confronted with sword and gun. The recent episode in Sudan involving a wonderful British school teacher exposes the intolerance for coexistence with different opinions.

The Bangladeshis who believe in the inset of liberation movement based on nationalism, secular society, secular democracy must be cognitively vigilant of these 5th columnists. Dr. Humayun Azad and Professor Yunus at Rajshahi University had to be killed by these people's Bangladeshi dols - in Jamaati Islamist long after our liberation war was over. So must be vigilant of these anis ahmeds and enaetullahs. They are evil people, at least in my opinion. They are very much reminiscent of the past glory of Islam and waste their valuable present. Regards.

Without perhaps entering into any kinds of debate and deliberations within our community for which we all have great regards , I must say that Ekattorer Golpo has been doing marvellous work over the last three years at such crucial times when younger generations abroad are least interested in exploring our history with a sense of pride and patriotism and rising above present time partisan politics. Needless to say that the partisan debates here in the USA too has so adversely affected our unity for the War of Liberation of 1971 , that these young adults who want to bridge a gap between the generation which experienced our Muktijuddho and the post '71 generation are extra-careful not to offend any shades of opinion and for that matter tilt towards one or the other. This does not , and should not, mean that Ekattorer Golpo would appease or even compromise with the Razakars and the War Criminals. If it did so it would be suicidal for Ekattorer Golpo. I ,therefore,  find no reason to feel that they are the Ghosts of Razakars as has been unfortunately mentioned in one of the news items in Khabor.com

My own feelings is this that these young professionals and students are over cautious in not defeating the cause of liberation through any such debates which would eventually serve the purpose of the enemies of our liberation war. Although , I personally feel , as a Moderator of the discussion , that the interruptions at that critical point when questions were being asked about war criminals were undesirable and this responsibility could have been given to the Moderator and not the person who was taking questions from the floor, I also feel that the views expressed in the aforementioned website was too simplistic , overgeneralized and injurious to the cause of our liberation war . The flaws in any program , and for that matter in Ekattorer Golpo's program , could be discussed and certainly criticized in a more constructive way giving directions to these young ladies and gentemen.

We must remember that a  temporal and spatial gap from our War of Liberation remains and that is going to enhance over the time . Therefore if Ekattorer Golpo or any such groups amongst the youth try to minimise the historical gap through recalling the events of 1971 and renewing the pledge to stand behind it , they should be whole heartedly supported and encouraged . Their  activities for the cause of liberation would eventually unveil and undo the enemies of 1971 from which point we proudly draw our inspirations and would continue to do so .

Let us vow today that no debates or deliberations henceforth should undermine our War of Liberation and people who organize programs for it .

Subject: [khabor.com] Statement by Ekattur'er Golpo Regarding Khabor Article Published on December 2, 2007

71-er Golpo aspires to celebrate Bangladesh 's rich history and diverse cultural heritage through creative expression. We seek to kindle the imagination of a new generation of Bangladeshis and Bangladeshi- Americans and inspire active citizenship.

The 71-er Golpo team is condemning the news article on the front page of Khabor on December 2, 2007. The article titled "71-er Golpe Rajakarder Prettatta" (The Ghosts of Anti-Liberation Forces in 71-er Golpo) is malicious, baseless and demonstrates extremely poor journalism standards .

We denounce the article on the following grounds:

Ø      Mr Shibbir Ahmed, the author of this article and the Editor of Khabor, expressed discontent at being stopped short while asking a question about anti-liberation forces (rajakars) during the show and went on to state that the organizers of 71-er Golpo are in affiliation with "rajakars". Whereas in reality, the organizers indulged Mr Shibbir Ahmed's longwinded statement during the Q&A session. Mohammad Wasiul Islam Gorki, who was channeling the questions from the audience, indicated that the session was over the time limit but allowed the speaker and moderator to address the question. One of the organizers wrapped up the discussion with a final question. Mr Shibbir Ahmed misrepresented the situation in his news site and went on to make baseless allegations to defile the image of 71-er Golpo.
Ø      In the same article, Mr Harun Chowdhury, a correspondent of Thikana, who was NOT present at the event, alleged that 71-er Golpo distorts history and the organizers are in cohorts with "rajakars". These claims were unsubstantiated and malicious. None of the organizers of 71-er Golpo were born during the liberation war and do not have any political affiliations. So the question of association with "rajakars" is a complete fabrication.

Mr Shibbir Ahmed has abused his position as a journalist to launch a smear campaign to undermine 71-er Golpo and made unsubstantiated and baseless claims that the organizers are affiliated with anti-liberation forces (rajakars). It is worth noting that the 71-er Golpo team has made a consorted effort to go beyond partisan politics and present the history of the liberation war to the new generation through the personal accounts of freedom fighters. Moreover, 71-er Golpo is a youth-led voluntary endeavor. Irresponsible and fabricated comments made in the article are extremely disheartening and will prevent young people in our community from taking initiative.

Defamation is a punishable offense in the United States . We call on Mr Shibbir Ahmed and Mr Harun Chowdhury to corroborate their claims with evidence OR retract the article and issue a public apology to 71-er Golpo on Khabor.

We would like to add that this is our third year organizing the 71-er Golpo event. This year's event has been the most successful by far given the participation and support of BCCDI, BABA and members of the Bangladeshi and Bangladeshi- American community. We would like to reach out to the community for feedback so that we can continue to improve our event in coming years. Each year the proceeds of 71-er Golpo are used to support various worthy causes. This year's proceeds will be donated to BRAC's Cyclone Sidr relief fund, the Liberation War Museum and a SATU project that ensures food security for 300 families in Bangladesh .
