[ALOCHONA] Re: Moeen U Ahmed in Kuwait

Dear Saeed Bhai

I would like to thank you for your very engaging words. So many words
by others are simply wasted as propaganda posing as rationale.

The only thing that is important is what is right for the country. We
should even agree to disagree as long as we believe that the other is
sincere and trying their level best to reach the right conclusions.

Whether I can vote or not is not the real issue is it? The issue of
the interfering NRB is secondary (but I am happy to engage you on
it). The real question is who should one vote for? And this question,
which you have appropriately described as burning, remains
unanswered. I do not refer to you at all, but most critics of the CTG
glaringly avoid this question.

I don't care about Qureshi and I have never written about him.
Everyone should avoid him. I beg you please don't make easy
assumptions. Not everyone in AL is desperate for Hasina as PM. Not
everyone in BNP is desperate for Khaleda as PM. Not everyone who
supports the CTG is desperate for Qureshi as PM (how many want that?
300 people?). Qureshi will occupy 5 lines only in the fat history
books of this era as a mistaken tactic of the CTG.

Let us engage again when the election is held to discuss whether it
is free and fair. And if it is not then I will freely apologise to
you for my mistake. I assume you expect no apology from AL or BNP for
anything : ) Funny how some set higher standards for commentators than for PMs or MPs :)

Chamchas and brokers occupy most seats in the entourages of Hasina
and Khaleda. I am neither and I believe you are neither. Exaggeration
is a valid tool when stressing a point. Lying is never a valid tool. I am glad you used the word exaggerations and not the word lies. Therein lies the truth.

You seem surprised that Khaleda buys expensive jewellery on her
foreign trips. On what basis are you surprised? The poor market she
visited is I believe the gold souk behind the Sheraton. The expensive
market she visited is I believe the Salhiya Complex. I think the BNP
grandee Nazrul Islam Khan, the then Ambassador, would know about such things eh : )

You seem surprised that an AL Foreign Minister would encourage a
crowd to shout within the sober walls of the Hotel Sheraton. On what
basis are you surprised? I think the President and GS of the 2 AL
factions in Kuwait and the richest AL supporters would not lie about such things eh : )

Unlike Dhaka, in many cities a new flashy hotel does not
automatically usurp the prestige of an older, more venerable, hotel.
The Sheraton's prestige is not measured by the size of its pool or
the style of its lobby. Its prestige is measured by the most
expensive dining in Kuwait, the most prestigious location in Kuwait,
the most expensive Royal Suite in Kuwait, the greatest number of
State Functions, the greatest number of State Guests and the greatest
history.

Bhai, Oh bhai! Where did you find my objection to the slogan "Joy
Bangla"? The words are beautiful, the slogan is beautiful. We must
embrace it. But that doesn't mean that any crook who says it is
legitimized by it, that any party that doesn't apologise for anything
is protected by it and that you can say it anywhere, anytime and
anyway. You think I am offended by the slogan. But I am offended by
the offence given to the slogan.

It's no use Bhai talking about corruption in the Army, bureaucracy,
business and the general society (corruption is everywhere) – as long
as there is political corruption. The common man elects politicians
to fix the corruption. That's why the first priority is
politicians.

Please name the many innocents who should be freed from jail
immediately. There's no point fighting the mafia if the powers will
let the mafia back in. That is why this has always been a fight to
change the powers that be. And I suggest more people already know
this than your message implies. The mission critical politicians and
businessmen arrested number probably less than 200.

I'm no lawyer but I believe that there should be some culpability for those in power who allowed others to get away with robbery and murder – and benefited indirectly from them. It's okay to go after these people if they do not withdraw. It's okay to go after these people if they work to reinstate criminals.

Please name the people who should not be driven from the centre of
power. Then show me how they stood up for democracy and against
corruption – in their own party.

The CTG are indeed juggling. They won't be around much longer and I
suspect they don't want to be around much longer either. At some
stage people will not be able to amazingly dismiss the evil done AL
and BNP by a single line :

we know the two ladies are fighting but…
we know there is corruption but …
we know everyone is corrupt so…

followed by many lines against the CTG.

Would you like to compare the evil done by the CTG with the evil done
by AL and BNP? Why don't we start with AL and BNP MPs protecting
gangsters and acid throwers? What will you do – say the crimes of
elected politicians are the same as the crimes of unelected Army
goons?

Bhai. `One day they will answer to the people' is a luxurious line
used by many a sincere writer and many a crooked politician. The
common man doesn't believe it based on the evidence he has before
him.

I disagree fundamentally with your opinion of the state of our
institutions – including the judiciary. As if our institutions and
judiciary were something you were even remotely pleased with before.
They have at the least been shaken up and that is exactly what is
needed. Let us analyse an institution in detail – pick one.... It is
a gamble I am prepared to take. It is not a gamble you would have
taken in the last 15 years or, if you get your wish, in the next 5
year term either.

The election will happen – it is written in the stars. It always was.

And if Hasina or Khaleda return as PM I won't be filling your inbox
with my rubbish. I'll focus on making money the democratic way –
Bangladeshi style. Join in – a lot of anti CTG types will be having
fun too…

An unelected juggler is better than an elected smuggler. The sooner
AL and BNP realize the sooner they will be able to save the nation.

Best regards

Ezajur Rahman
Kuwait
