Attention: Moderatorts Follow up: Gazipur – Sahebabd Incident Professor Ajoy Roy talked to DC Gazipur Today at around 11 am I talked to DC Gazipur to his cell phone. I got him while he was returning from the village Sahebabad with the SP. The DC admitted the facts saying that it started with a dispute over a piece of land. The land in question, according to the dc, has been in possession of one Hazrat Ali, a notorious man of the locality, known for his antisocial activities with his cadres. Recently one Mr. Paritosh discovered, perhaps on the basis of information of the Tahsil office, that the land belonged to his ancestors, but somehow the family got lost track of it. Paritosh babu, after recovering the proper documents, asked the forcible occupier to vacate the land he was forcibly enjoying. Hazrat Ali declined but offered Paritosh to sale it to him. But Paritosh, for reasons not known to me, refused to accept the offer. Failing to dislodge Hazrat Ali, Paritosh tried to sale the land to another Muslim Party. This infuriated Hazrat Ali and his gong, acceding to dc, and led the attack on Paritosh and other Hindu families. When I asked the dc if the dispute is between two individuals, why did the attacker raid other Hindu families of the village? The dc has no answer, saying that it was a heinous crime and notorious Hazrat Ali and his terrorist gangsters are capable of doing any terrorist activities. He assured me that he will arrange full safety of the people with police. He informed me that SP has also been with him and he would the needful to protect the life and properties of all people of the village. When I punted out to him that according to Ekushe TV, the Hindus who left the village out of panic has not yet returned home. The obliging dc said report is a bit exacerbation and he claimed that he has talked to many families who are at home after the incident and many more are returning. When I asked him 'are you satisfied with the security measures', he had no direct answer saying `we are doing our best. The SP is with me and surely proper security arrangement would be done for the villagers. ' I requested the dc to put up a police camp in the distressed village to which his answer was he would refer the matter to the SP. DC however once again assured me that the notorious culprit Ali and gong would be rounded up soon. He cannot avoid justice. Let us hope so. Today's ETV report once again revealed that most of the Hindu families have not yet returned to their homes. Many houses are found under lock and key. Even some has returned they will move to safer place after the sunset. The report further said that there is no visible police protection arrangement that could generate confidence among the minorities. The OC of Ps Kaliakair was found fumbling in answering to a pointed question put to him by the reporter. Many gentlemen among the spectators openly complained that Hazrat Ali is a notorious man; he comes from a thief-family. Even his father and grand father were thieves. Such is the impression about Hazrat Ali. They further said that Hazrat Ali is not the only person, there many like him as for example Mohasin, Ariful Islam. The SP has said to the ETV that everything would be done to restore peace in the area; if necessary a police camp would be set up there.
